Melton FLO commenced the implementation of School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) in 2024. SWPBS uses a tiered intervention framework along with robust data-based decision-making which helps Melton FLO improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for students. It provides evidence-based, positive and proactive practices that support and respond to students’ social, emotional and behavioural needs.
Melton FLO was awarded the SWPBS “Blue Award” in 2024 showing our staff’s commitment to implementing SWPBS with fidelity and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment.
SWPBS at Melton FLO sets a positive culture based around our core values of safety, respect and personal best. Staff and students collaborated to create behaviour matrices to show behaviour expectations aligned to our values, in and outside of the classroom. We focus on different expectations in different settings throughout the year, teaching the expectations, and reminding students of expectations as they navigate through different contexts of the school environment so that we can help all students be successful learners and respectful, considerate young people. We seek to prevent situations that lead to behaviours of concern, teach alternatives, and reinforce expected behaviours.
We use FLO Tickets which are designed to encourage and recognise positive behaviour among our students that is aligned with our school values of Safety, Respect and Personal Best. Students have the opportunity to earn FLO Tickets when they demonstrate these behaviours around the school values. These tickets can be exchanged for various rewards, items, and privileges, fostering a positive and motivating school environment.
